Humidity Scan
What is a Humidity Scan?
Relative humidity is the measurement of the amount of moisture in the air represented as a percentage. A humidity scan will help to determine an HVACs systems efficiency in removing humidity from a home as well as the overall thermal / moisture envelope of the structure. High or low humidity can have irritating effects on the homes inhabitants and create costly problems such as mold and rot. Checking a home’s humidity levels can help to resolve and/or prevent these problems.
What do you look for?
The inspector uses a humidity sensor throughout the home to get an understanding of the overall humidity levels.
Often humidity issues are accompanied with moisture on surfaces or an overall discomfort in the home’s air.
The humidity scan will also help to determine if there are areas in the home that are conducive to mold growth.
Can I fix it?
The ideal indoor humidity of a home falls in the range of 30% to 50%. Too much or too little moisture in the air can make the home uncomfortable to live in and can even cause adverse health effects such as respiratory infections, itchy skin, asthma and more.
If your home’s humidity levels are considered outside this range there are things you can do to help resolve the issue. Here’s a couple of things that could fix your humidity problems:
Get your air conditioner tuned up to help cycle out humidity in the air.
Use exhaust vents from the home more frequently to keep moisture from cooking and showers from remaining in the home.
