Lead Based Paint Testing
What do you test?
Noble uses lead paint swab test kits to perform the test and provide results in the field and documented in the report. We test two (2) locations at the property, typically one exterior and one interior, depending on field observations and client preference.
What is lead?
Lead is a heavy metal that is highly toxic to humans, particularly young children and pregnant women. It is found naturally in the environment, but most exposure occurs through man-made sources such as paint, water pipes, and gasoline. When ingested or inhaled, lead can accumulate in the body and cause a range of health problems.
Lead is particularly dangerous to children because their bodies and brains are still developing. Children exposed to lead may experience developmental delays, learning disabilities, and behavioral problems. In severe cases, lead poisoning can cause coma, convulsions, and even death.
What and why is lead in paint?
Lead-based paint was commonly used in homes and buildings built before 1978, and is still present in many older structures. If ingested or inhaled, lead-contaminated dust and chips from deteriorating paint can be a significant source of lead exposure.
How is it tested?
Lead-based paint testing is a process used to determine the presence of lead in paint or other surfaces. There are several methods that can be used to test for lead, including X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy, atomic absorption spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and lead paint swab test kits.
